Tilston Wakes this bank holiday weekend

THIS year’s Tilston Wakes promises to be better than ever, with a funfair, falconry display and a new play area competition.

The annual celebration starts at noon on bank holiday Monday.

As usual discussions around the appointment of the new Lord Mayor of Tilston has been shrouded in secrecy and will not be announced until 1pm on Monday.

Adrian Donovan of the organising committee said: “This year there will be two Lord Mayors at the celebration as this year’s Lord Mayor of Cheshire West and Chester Council is Tilston resident Neil Ritchie, and the Wakes Committee is delighted to welcome him on Monday, when he will cut the first slice of the traditional ox roast.”

The events planned for Monday afternoon includes a falconry display, sheepdog skills and a duck display and as usual the Wakes will conclude with the village tug-of-war finals.

Both young and old will have plenty to see and do including a traditional funfair and a vintage motor vehicle display.

This year youngsters will be able to take part in a competition based at the new play area adventure trail which includes a zip wire, set of swings, embankment slide and tunnel.
