Students urged to volunteer to help boost their CV

VOLUNTEER Centre Chester is urging pupils who have missed out on university places to take this opportunity to volunteer.

With competition for university places dramatically increasing it is now feared that many A-level students in Chester and the surrounding areas may face disappointment if they do not get the required grades for their chosen universities.

Dee Gunning, youth volunteer worker at Volunteer Centre Chester said: “It has been suggested that students who miss out on a place at university could take a year out before reapplying for the following year.

“However, it is important to use this year out wisely to gain valuable experiences which will make your university application shine out.

“Volunteering helps you stand out from the crowd. Having the opportunity to try out various career routes actually may also help you decide on a course that meets your needs and aspirations. It also bridges the gap between theory and practice.”

If you are unsure about what to do next contact Volunteer Centre Chester for advice on what volunteering opportunities are available – telephone 01244 316 587 or email volunteercentre@chesterva.org.uk.
