Milkman catches milk thieves red handed in Tarporley

A BRAVE milkman stood up to two teenagers who were stealing his milk in Tarporley in the early hours of the morning.

Robert Smith who works for Briscoe’s Dairy in Tarvin was delivering milk to residents in The Paddock in the village at 3.30am on Friday (August 20) when he heard shouts behind his milk van.

Mr Smith ignored the youths and completed his round to The Paddock and was driving out of the cul-de-sac when he spotted two male teenagers carrying bottles of milk he had just delivered.

Graham Briscoe of Briscoe’s Dairy said: “When he spotted they had the milk he had just delivered he jumped out of his van and stopped the two lads, catching them red handed.

“He then phoned me and the police and stood with the two youths until the police arrived.

“It turns out they had been camping in a nearby field and decided it would be a fun thing to do. I suppose a milkman was an easy target.”

The two local youths were taken home to their parents and police have dealt with them through their restorative justice programme.

Graham added: “We have had milk thefts before. It usually happens during the school holidays when the teenagers are out in the early hours.”
