Milk tanker overturns on A55 Posthouse Roundabout near Chester

A MILK tanker which overturned on the outskirts of Chester caused traffic disruption on Friday night.

The incident, which happened on the A55 Posthouse Roundabout, was reported to Cheshire Fire and Rescue service at about 9pm.

A mixture of diesel and milk was leaking from the tanker, and firefighters from Chester Fire Station had to call for the Environmental Protection Agency Unit from Ellesmere Port to arrive to tackle the spillage.

Crew manager Anthony McCarthy said: "The diesel tank was smashed and the contents were leaking into the drainage system, but the main problem was milk going in as well.

"It was quite imperative we stopped the leak so we used the EPU, which carries all the equipment we need to stop environmental damage.

"We were there for about three hours and the Highways Agency officers came to recover the vehicle. Basically, it was a good effort by the crews."

The driver of the vehicle was taken to the Countess of Chester Hospital for precautionary checks.
