Chester woman’s newborn son inspires her to set up business

A MUM was inspired to start up her own business by her newborn son.

Emily Arkwright, 30, of Chester Lane, Saighton, launched Spring baby, an online babywear and accessories store, when she found it difficult to find clothes for her son William, now 15 months.

Emily, a former recruitment and marketing consultant, said she first thought about launching her own business when she relocated to North Yorkshire with her husband of three years, Tom.

“I couldn’t find good quality, affordable clothing for William – it was either very expensive or cheap and wouldn’t last.

“I wanted things that I could get on and off as easily as possible – like for changing his nappy, for instance.”

Emily, who met her husband while studying at university in Northumbria, started out in Edinburgh at a marketing firm, ending up in the recruitment industry. After three and a half years she wanted to slow down and worked as an office manager at a removal company.

Emily added: “I was thinking of ideas at around the time I had William.

“Launching a business online is much easier to manage than opening a shop and was really my only option as I didn’t want overheads like shop rental.”
