Birthday celebration for Chester Kumon Centre

A STUDY centre celebrates a special birthday today.

The Chester North Kumon Study Centre, at Cheshire County Sports Club in Upton, opens its doors to the community to celebrate 15 years of helping students reach their potential in maths and English.

The event, on from 4-5pm, is open to past, present and future Kumon families.

Activities will include a Mini ‘Mathathon’ where participants have to answer as many easy sums as they can in two minutes and a numberboard challenge.

The centre opened in 1995 and instructor Margaret Wheeler offered the Kumon maths programme, developed in Japan more than 50 years ago by high school maths teacher Toru Kumon.

Instructor Janet Conway took over from Margaret in 2007. She said: “The most rewarding part for me is when I see the children succeed.

“It really motivates me when parents come to see me and tell me that their child’s teacher has noticed an improvement in their work or they have moved up a group at school.”

For more information, contact Janet on 0151 339 0382 or visit www.kumon.co.uk.
