A GROUP of dads who meet for a drink in Guilden Sutton have downed their pints and taken up a challenge for charity.
Steve Cheng, Kevin Bailey, Steve Docking, Stewart Moulton, David Baldacchino, Andy Rush, John Croft, Jason Herbert, Dave Roberts, Henry Proudlove, Richard Bowser, Brendan Bolton, Andy Bleasdale, Andy Ramsden, Mark Diaj, Ian Reed, Andy Forrest, Simon Jones and Chris Howarth meet at The Bird in Hand pub.
Divided into two teams, the fathers completed the Three Peaks Challenge on the weekend of July 17/18 to raise almost £6,000 for Claire House Hospice.
The event was particularly poignant for Steve Docking, who is headteacher of Delamere Primary School.
One of his pupils, Lydia Wilson, died last year at the age of six following a brain tumour. Throughout her illness, Lydia and her family were supported by the hospice in Bebington on the Wirral.
He said: “Lydia battled the tumour for the best part of two years and in her time at school she was loved by all and brought us a great many fond memories.
“Lydia’s family are well on the way to raising a considerable amount of money which they will donate to Claire House at the end of the year.”
He added: "Completing the Three Peaks Challenge was an unforgettable experience. Despite the terrible weather, we enjoyed every moment."
Every member of the team completed the challenge to climb Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowdon in Wales in 24 hours.
Some finished in 23 hours while others succeeded with just seven minutes to spare.
Steve Cheng added: "What a great weekend – even the horrendous weather couldn't stop us!"
