Chester’s Abbey Gate School celebrates 100th anniversary
PUPILS at Abbey Gate School in Chester celebrated 100 years of education with a fun day.
The event started with a sports day at the school in Clare Avenue, Hoole, followed by a buffet lunch and fun and games during the afternoon.
Headteacher Sue Fisher then cut a celebration cake and the children released 100 balloons in the school colours of blue and yellow.
The afternoon activities, including treasure hunts, a tombola, face painting and hook-a-frog, were organised by the parents’ support group.
Teacher Linda Mellor said: “We were fortunate to have had a gloriously sunny day.
“This will be the end of a very successful year as the Year 6 and Year 2 children achieved outstanding SATs results.”
The Chester school was founded in 1910 in Nicholas Street and moved to its present site in Clare Avenue in 2006. The school has celebrated its centenary with a thanksgiving service at Chester Cathedral.
