MEMBERS of Frodsham’s Will to Work workshop are looking forward to moving into their ‘perfect’ new home at one of the former high school’s redundant science laboratories.
The ground-floor lab and adjoining utility room are attached to Frodsham Leisure Centre which remained when Frodsham High School was demolished last year, and workshop members are fitting them out for the move in September which will enable them to extend the opening hours to five full days a week, Monday to Friday.
The workshop has operated from various sites and is currently based in Fountain Lane, but founder Geoff Prince, 60, has been on the look-out for a suitable permanent base since he started the enterprise nine years ago after suffering a serious illness.
He had to give up his work as a builder and, supported by his wife, Norma, he started the workshop to help other people disabled by strokes, serious injury and illness to rebuild their lives and regain their confidence in a working environment.
Geoff said community support for the workshop was ‘tremendous’.
“There are a lot of very kind people out there who have helped us in all sorts of ways, and I’m very grateful to Frodsham councillor Andrew Dawson, who pointed us in the right direction to acquire our new rented premises from Cheshire West and Chester Council, which are just perfect.”
Geoff can be contacted on 01928 731477.
