More than 50,000 enjoyed the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power at the weekend
SOME of the fastest and most expensive vehicles in the world powered up and descended on a rural Cheshire village.
Millions of pounds worth of machinery went on display at the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power and proved to the crowds why they were some of the most desired in the world.
More than 50,000 visitors turned up over the weekend to enjoy the high octane action at the Pageant, whose media partner was The Chronicle.
Collections of contemporary and historic cars and bikes took to the racing circuit and showed the awestruck crowd their nerve, flair and exceptional design.
A new course record was set by Nicky Falkner, driving the Lamborghini Gallardo LP570-4 Super Leggera, completing the 1.3 mile circuit in 62.68 seconds.
On the water, powerboat action included the powerful Formula 2 and 4 classes, together with 400cc ISO Seniors and Thundercats.
Over the two-day event the sky was filled with a wealth of helicopters, which were not only on display but also performed in some gravity-defying aerobatic displays.
The Breitling display team wowed audiences with their wingwalking expertise.
There was no peace and quiet at the Pageant, particularly when the assault demonstration by the armed forces took centre stage. This was not for the faint-hearted and audiences could see, hear and smell the live combined arms attack. After the display, both young and old had the chance to get up close to the military vehicles and hardware and actually speak to the men and women who operate them.
On the Saturday evening, the roar of engines was replaced by the sweet sounds of the Manchester Cameratera Orchestra. While the fireworks made a stunning display in the air, and crowds waived their union jacks, Cholmondeley castle was awash with colour from a dramatic light display.
The concert was also touched with a poignant moment in the form of an address by Lt Colonel Andrew Hadfield, Commanding Officer of 1st Battalion Mercian Regiment, via a link from Afghanistan.
