Chester murder trial: Court hears of Howells' previous convictions

JASON Howells had previous convictions involving knives.

When aged 17, he was found in possession of a knife. In 1994, he was convicted of being in possession of an unknown offensive weapon.

The court heard he also had convictions for common assault, a minor assault and an unlawful wounding involving a group of men, in which the victim was kicked and punched.

In 2000, he pleaded guilty to stealing a knife from a kitchen drawer. In 2001, he was convicted of harassment against an ex-partner.

In 2004, he was convicted of being in possession of a bladed article. The defendant said he was using the knives to start a vehicle.

In July 2005, he was found to be in possession of class A drugs with intent to supply.

In September 2008 he was convicted of common assault and criminal damage after kicking an ex-partner’s car and throwing a cigarette in her face. He pleaded guilty on the basis the cigarette was unlit.
