Champion gymnast Beth Tweddle promotes The Christie garden at RHS Show at Tatton Park

WORLD gymnast Beth Tweddle took time out from training to promote The Christie garden at the RHS Show at Tatton Park.

The double gold medal winner braved torrential rain to perform the splits in the air atop a Lakeland stone sphere in the centre of Elizabeth Daley’s Embracing Tranquility garden.

The garden’s plants reflect the Manchester cancer centre’s ethos and the plants have medicinal or therapeutic qualities. These include yew which is used in cancer treatment and lavender, used in palliative care.

The garden is a private refuge from a busy world combining contemporary materials with elements of traditional monastic style.

Beth was at the show with mum Ann before heading to Liverpool to continue training for the World Championships in Rotterdam in October.

She said: “I love the tranquility of the garden.”

Asked her views on the London Olympics in 2010 Beth said: “2012 is always in the back of my mind. I’m hoping to be there but I’m focusing on the World Championships at the moment.”
