St Luke’s Frodsham Primary School pupils create artwork for Frodsham station
COLOURFUL artwork has cheered up Frodsham’s old station house just in time summer.
Members of Frodsham’s Will to Work Workshop came up with the idea of brightening up the semi-derelict railway building.
They enlisted pupils of Helsby High School, Frodsham’s four primary schools and the Fourth Frodsham Brownies to produce paintings of flowers and trees to replace drab security boards covering the building’s windows and doors which face the Manchester-bound platform.
Owner Spacia – the property arm of Network Rail – has so far failed to attract a developer to bring the Grade II listed building, which has stood empty for years, back to life.
Will to Work Workshop founder Geoff Prince said: “It looked so bare and rundown we just thought it needed cheering up, and the children have done a wonderful job.
“We’ve been working on the project for the past few weeks.
“Robert Gleave and Sons kindly donated the plywood panels, which workshop members prepared for painting, and we installed the artwork.”
Other artists from Frodsham and Helsby are also now working on paintings of Frodsham scenes that will eventually be installed on the opposite side of the station house, overlooking Morrisons.
The Frodsham-based North Cheshire Rail Users Group, which maintains the station’s multi- award-winning gardens, welcomed the initiative.
Chairman Janet Briggs said: “Regrettably, there seems to be no fresh active moves to return the semi- derelict station house to commercial use, in spite of its central location in the town.
“Geoff’s project has at least helped to brighten it up.”
