First market garden at Overleigh St Mary’s CE Primary School
CAPTAIN Bird’s Eye would have been impressed by the freshness of the peas at a school’s first ever farmers’ market.
The garden vegetables were picked from the allotment at Overleigh St Mary’s CE Primary School in Handbridge for Saturday morning’s big event.
Also on sale were broad beans, lettuce, potatoes and fresh flowers grown by youngsters from the Year 5 and 6 Learning Academy. Other classmates baked cakes for the event.
The market, from 9.30am till noon, was in the school car park on Old Wrexham Road.
The event raised £600 which will go towards developing an outdoor classroom.
Local businesses with stalls included Patchwork Pate, Keiko Gordon, Allibags, Forever Living, Alison Pitt, Phoenix Trading, Clubcocorico, Overleigh Bake Shop, The Jolly Brewer, A Taste of France, Walk Mill Breads, Cheshire Farm Ice Cream, Larkton Hall Cheese, RSPB, Manor Farm Meats and a jewellery stall.
