ELDERLY residents are being warned to be on their guard by Cheshire police after distraction burglars targeted an elderly resident in the Hoole area on Wednesday (July14).
At about 5.10 pm two men went to the address of an elderly lady on Myrica Grove in Hoole, claiming to be from the waterboard, saying that they needed to check her supply.
The lady let them into her house before realising they were not genuine. It is not known as yet whether they have stolen any property.
One male was average height, stocky build wearing jeans and a dark coloured t- shirt. The other was wearing brown gloves.
Police Spokesman Jason Murray said: “ Always remember if someone calls at your door whom you do not know, ask for I.D. Use your door chain if you have one. Anyone from a genuine utility company will wait until you are completely happy. You do not have to answer your door. Have the number handy of a neighbour or nearby friend/ relative whom you can call for support. Keep an eye out for suspicious callers at elderly neighbours houses, and if you see anything suspicious call the police.”
If you can provide any information to assist officers call Cheshire Police on 0845 458 0000
