Paramedics tried to resuscitate knife victim Fynn Davey-court hears

A MOTHER heard how paramedics battled in vain to save the life of her son after he was allegedly murdered with a knife through the heart.

Louise Davey was at Chester Crown Court on Friday to learn how paramedic Camilla Rumsey and colleagues from North West Ambulance Service tried to resuscitate her 23-year-old son Fynn Western-Davey.

Mrs Davey, who runs a school for excluded children in Blacon, heard how her son was found lying in blood-soaked clothing on the floor of the kitchen at number 46 Balmoral Park, Chester.

The prosecution alleges occupant Jason Howells had stabbed him, with his girlfriend Nicola Bishop playing a secondary role. Both deny murder.

Miss Rumsey was first to arrive on scene in a fast response car after she was called at 6.13pm on Saturday January 23 but had to wait around the corner for a police escort before entering the house with colleagues who arrived shortly afterwards in an ambulance.

There was initial confusion over the address because defendant Bishop, who rang 999, gave the address as 36 Balmoral Park although all sides accept this was out of panic.

Ms Rumsey said the patient’s lips were purple due to no blood circulating. A defibrillator showed there was no heart rhythm. A colleague carried out heart massage while she used a ventilator bag over the course of about 20 minutes.

Prosecutor Michael Chambers QC said: “You and your colleagues did what you could but there was no response?” “Yes,” replied Miss Rumsey, who confirmed a police officer had also attempted CPR.

It was decided to take Mr Western-Davey to the nearby Countess of Chester Hospital where medics were ready to receive him but he was certified dead at 7.06pm. In her report, Ms Rumsey said the injury had been caused by a large knife and the suspected weapon had been identified to her at the scene.

The Trial continues
