Jigsaw Music Theatre Company’s rhino play

A CHESTER zoo keeper had her hands full last week with a rhino, an oxpecker, hyenas, a bat, monkeys and a pig.

Helen Massey, who normally looks after real rhinos, was at the Chestival stage in Town Hall Square forThe Crash of the Rhinos by Jigsaw Music Theatre Company.

Written by Will Wood, the play told the story of Rascal the Rhino, who loses his self-esteem after being mocked by other animals.

Accompanied by his trusty friend Ozzy the Oxpecker, Rascal travels the world. Following a makeover by French pig, Pascal, played with expert comic timing by Jessyca Baker, 16, Rascal ends up getting caught up in Chester’s Rhino Mania. When organisers realise Rascal is real, he and Ozzy find refuge at Chester Zoo.

Directed by Milly Stevenson, Michael Biegel and Will Wood with music by Matt Baker and Erin Elston, the play was narrated in song by Natalie Wearden, 15.
