Farmers market at Overleigh St Mary’s CE Primary School

CHILDREN at Overleigh St Mary’s CE Primary School in Handbridge have been harvesting produce for their first farmers’ market on Saturday.

Youngsters from the Year 5 and 6 Learning Academy have grown potatoes, broad beans, peas, strawberries and lettuce in an allotment in the school garden. All the produce has been grown from seed.

The Learning Academy is an extra- curricular project teaching life skills such as gardening and cookery to 10- and 11-year olds.

The market, from 9.30am till noon, is in the school grounds on Old Wrexham Road.

As well as selling fresh produce and cakes, pupils will be painting faces, braiding hair and playing environmental games.

Local businesses with stalls at the market include Patchwork Pate, KEIKO Gordon, ALLIBAGS, Forever Living, Alison Pitt, Phoenix Trading, Clubcocorico, Overleigh Bake Shop, The Jolly Brewer, A Taste of France, Walk Mill Breads, Cheshire Farm Ice Cream, Larkton Hall Cheese, RSPB, Manor Farm Meats and a jewellery stall.

There will be a raffle and any money raised will go toward funding an outdoor classroom.
