Emergency meeting organised in Westminster over B&Q job loss fears in Weaver Vale

AN EMERGENCY meeting will be held today for staff at the Preston Brook B&Q distribution centre.

Weaver Vale MP Graham Evans has organised the meeting with business and trade union representatives after workers were told last week they could be facing redundancy.

Mr Evans said: “This, potentially, is a really big blow for the area.

“I have arranged this emergency meeting so we can act fast to do all we can to save local jobs.”

Workers were told that, following a review of the logistics network, B&Q plans to withdraw all operations from the site at Preston Brook by January 2012, affecting 621 employees.

The meeting, to be held in Westminster, will be between Mr Evans, DHL, which operates the distribution centre for B&Q, trade union representatives from Usdaw and Widnes MP Derek Twigg.
