St David’s High School student wins prestigious apprenticeship

A SIXTH former has won a place on a prestigious apprenticeship scheme.

St David’s High student Luke Dorbin, 18, has been offered a conditional place on the National Grid’s three-year Foundation Engineering programme.

There were more than 3,000 applicants for 11 places on the course and Luke was the only candidate interviewed who did not already have a degree or the equivalent level of engineering experience.

He said: “I was a bit worried after going to the interview as although I thought I did all right at the activities everyone else was a lot older than me.

“I could not believe it when they offered me a position.

“I’ve got to concentrate on my exams now, even though I am just so excited and can’t wait to begin the programme in September.”
