Rev Adam Friend starts new life at St Andrew’s in Tarvin and St Peter’s in Duddon

A VICAR has swapped urban surroundings for a new life in the country.

The Rev Adam Friend, 34, was inducted at St Andrew’s Church in Tarvin last Thursday and fills the position left vacant for 12 months.

The appointment comes after the Rev David Herbert left the parish, which also includes St Peter’s in Duddon, more than 12 months ago.

His original replacement died just seven days after he was appointed, leaving the parish to be temporarily ministered by the Revs Margaret and Donald Marr and Bishop Alan Chesters.

The Rev Friend, who comes from St Chad’s, Winsford, brings with him wife Helen, from Frodsham, and 18-month-old son Harry.

Speaking on the day of his induction, he said: “It will be very different as I will become the vicar of two villages rather than one of three belonging to a town. There is a different focus.

“I am going to take my time getting to know people, get my feet under the table and understand where God wants this parish to be during the next five or ten years.

“It will be the first time I will be living next to the church and it seems there are lots of great places to eat here. I am looking forward to settling into village life and becoming part of the community.

“My son loves the countryside and already has shown an affinity to the nearby herd of cows we regularly visit.”

Canon Michael Walters, acting Archdeacon of Chester, said: “Adam Friend comes to Tarvin following a much appreciated ministry in Northwich and Winsford.

“We look forward to seeing what God will do in Tarvin under Adam’s leadership.”
