Chester Civic Trust hosts schools art exhibition inspired by 2,000 years of building in city

YOUNGSTERS from around the area have been busy getting creative in school as part of a major free art exhibition which opens on Saturday.

Staged as part of Chester Civic Trust’s golden jubilee celebrations, year groups at six schools from Chester and Neston have been working in conjunction with artist Andy Leigh to produce vibrant and exciting art inspired by Chester’s 2,000 year history.

Pupils from Acresfield Primary, Hoole CofE Primary, JH Godwin Primary, Lache Primary, Christleton High and Neston High schools were visited by Kate Harland, learning and development officer at Chester’s Grosvenor Museum, who talked about the city’s long and rich architectural heritage and showed the youngsters artefacts and images from buildings around the city. Professional artist Andy Leigh then spent a day working with each group to help inspire and guide the finished artwork which focuses on the city’s Roman, Tudor and Victorian periods. The enthusiastic pupils have produced dozens of pieces of work, ranging from small individual items to large collaborations.

The exhibition, which has been supported by Chester Decorative and Fine Arts Society and Aaron and Partners Solicitors, is being hosted by The Queen’s School, City Walls Road, Chester. Opening from 10am-4pm from Saturday to April 7 (excluding Sundays, Good Friday and Easter Monday).
