Police to give motorists in Helsby anti-theft screws to secure number plates to their cars

SPECIAL screws to secure your number plate to your car are being offered to drivers in Helsby following a spate of thefts.

The anti-theft screws are being offered to motorists at the Tesco car park in Chester Road on Sunday, March 28, between 11am and 3pm.

Detective Sergeant Rupert Morrey of the Western Rural Neighbourhood Policing team said: “We have seen number plates being stolen in recent weeks from across the area.

“These thefts not only cause a nuisance to the owner of the vehicle, but the plates are used in crimes such as drive offs from petrol stations and burglaries.

“These screws secure the plates to the car, making it almost impossible to remove them easily.”

The screws will be given out as part of Cheshire Constabulary’s Brief the Chief roadshow.

During the roadshow residents will be encouraged to record their views on what they think of their local policing services via an interactive video booth, which will form the centrepiece of the roadshow.

People who attend will also be able to chat to their community support officer and meet representatives of the Police Authority, who will be consulting people on what areas they feel the police should concentrate on.
