University of Chester offers taste of higher education to Year 10 school pupils

THE University of Chester has provided a tase of higher education for 150 youngsters from schools across Halton.

The opportunity came via a conference organised by the university in conjunction with Aimhigher Halton.

The year 10 pupils were offered a choice of 10 subject sessions to attend, including dance or drama workshops, English or history lectures, or taking part in a soils lab test in the geography and development studies department.

The University’s Widening Participation Officer, Gaynor Lovett, who organised the event, said: “The aim of the day was to raise pupils’ aspirations and to consider higher education after they leave school. It was very successful and the pupils enjoyed the packed schedule of activities.”

The pupils were also taken on a tour of the university’s Chester campus and took part in a Uni Factfinder, which gave them the opportunity to meet some current students and find out more about university life.
