Winners of St David’s High School School Idol competition

TWO talented singers were given a wild card to reach the semi final of a national school singing competition, because judges were so impressed with the standard of entries at St David’s High School in Saltney.

Jess Cavendish and Annabel Leeding were given the opportunity after two successful acts were already through to the next round of the School Idol contest.

Robert Cappadona and Sam Page had grabbed the audience vote with their medley of Oasis songs and Scott Davies had tugged at the judges’ heart strings with his rendition of Cry Me a River, when it was decided to offer the girls the chance.

Teacher Anne Rushforth said: “The judges were really impressed with the standard and they thought we were a performing arts school!”

The hall was packed out for the visit from the School Idol Roadshow, which is looking for talented youngsters aged between eight and 18 in schools across the country.

The semi final will take place in June at a venue in the North West.
