First Combined Training Series qualifiers held at South View Equestrian Centre in Cheshire

THE first competition in the showjumping and dressage Combined Training Series qualifiers was packed out with competitors from across the region.

The Combined Training Series had been run by British Dressage (BD) for many years but last year they dropped out and equestrian enthusiasts thought the competition had come to an end. But Manley businesswoman Ruth Mealey stepped in to run the competition in partnership with the South View Equestrian Centre in Wettenhall to keep the series going.

The series includes seven monthly qualifying rounds and then a championship final in September.

Ruth said: “We are delighted with our first combined training series qualifier. The day ran smoothly despite an early start due to the number of competitors and limited hours of daylight. Even an impromptu snow shower didn’t put any one off. It was good to see so many people who were new to the series turning up and seeing what was going on.”

The next qualifier will take place on Wednesday (March 17).
