River Dee body identified

A MYSTERY surrounding the identity of a body pulled from the River Dee has been solved.

A post mortem carried out on Monday proved that it was Damien Jones, 30, who was last seen leaving his Rhyl home at 8.30pm on January 21.

Police had earlier appealed for information to help them identify Mr Jones, stating they had failed to link the man to any missing person reports.

Around a dozen police officers were sent to the scene, between the Old Dee Bridge and Grosvenor Bridge, after getting a call from a member of the public at 2.20pm on Wednesday, March 3.

They set up an extensive cordon and told children, going home from school, and dog walkers to take detours around the site, close to Minerva’s shrine at the bottom of Greenway Street, Handbridge.

Jason Murray, Cheshire police spokesman, said: “A post mortem was conducted at the Royal liverpool Hospital. The outcome of that is that the death is not being treated as suspicious and is a tragic event. A file is being prepared for Her Majesty's coroner.”
