St Mary’s Community Nursery in Chester celebrates Chinese New Year

NOODLES, rice, prawn crackers and bean sprouts were on the menu for a Chinese banquet at St Mary’s Community Nursery School in Handbridge.

The feast, and a spot of dragon dancing, were to welcome in the Chinese New Year. The youngsters used traditional chopsticks to eat their food and all took home a fortune cookie.

Headteacher Ken Jones said: “ It is a very visual and exciting celebration which young children can easily participate in, and encourages them to find out more about another culture.”

The children also enjoyed a performance by The Treasure Trove Puppet Company of The Story of The Willow Pattern Plate.
