TWO new appointments at the University of Chester are expected to enhance its reputation as a centre of theology and religious studies still further.
Professor Robert Warner, of Tarporley, has been appointed as head of theology and Religious Studies, replacing professor Ruth Ackroyd who retired last year. Prof Warner was previously head of theology and religious studies at the University of Wales, Lampeter.
He said: “The University of Chester has a very strong undergraduate programme and a burgeoning postgraduate programme at masters and doctorate levels.
“I shall be looking to develop opportunities for our students further and raise our profile at national and international level.”
The appointment of professor Elaine Graham as Grosvenor Research Professor of Practical Theology will also contribute to these initiatives.
Prof Graham was previously Samuel Ferguson Professor of Social and Pastoral Theology at the University of Manchester and has an international reputation for her published work.
Prof Warner said: “Prof Graham’s appointment in Chester has already led to an increase in the number of practical theology doctoral students at the university.
“Indeed, we have now become the UK’s leading provider of professorial doctorate study in this field.”
