Frodsham Police Station will be open to the public again

REGULAR opening hours will resume at Frodsham Police Station in a move welcomed by town leaders as ‘going back to the old way’.

Since the Ship Street station was designated ‘unmanned’ two years ago it has operated mainly as a base for community and motorway police officers with little or no public access.

However, after urging constabulary chiefs to ‘give the public back something they have been missing’, Western Rural Area Police Inspector Phil Hodgson has announced that, from April 1, an officer will be back behind the station’s front desk between 10am and 2pm Monday-Friday.

Town councillor Frank Pennington said: “We’re going back to the old way. It’s fantastic news.”

Inspector Hodgson said that, despite a sign outside the station stating it was unmanned, “it has always been the case that if anyone knocked on the door or rang the bell and someone was in, they would attend.

“But I could not always guarantee someone would be available because I prefer my officers to be out and about.”

He said the decision to reopen the station – and the assignment two weeks ago of 10 extra police officers to improve local emergency response times – was ‘long overdue’.

“Re-introducing this service at the station will be a huge benefit, and I now have two additional officers per shift working from Frodsham 24/7. ”
