Everton FC star Phil Neville officially opens community resource centre at Dorin Park School in Chester

EVERTON captain Phil Neville cut the ribbon to mark the opening of the £100,000 community resource centre at Dorin Park School.

The Toffees star was greeted by several excited pupils proudly sporting their Everton home shirts.

After opening the centre in Wealstone Lane, Upton, Neville chatted to youngsters before posing for photographs and signing autographs.

Headteacher Annie Hinchcliffe said: “We were absolutely delighted to have Phil Neville here. There are lots of Everton supporters in school and they’re thrilled to pieces.”

The facility was built after the Wealstone Lane school secured Government funding, as well as receiving vital support from the likes of Chester Lions and Cheshire Police.

The centre was completed in September 2008, but this was the first chance the school has had to officially mark its opening.

Although crucial to pupils’ learning, the centre is also widely used by Crossroads Care, Connexions, after-school clubs and night classes. It is open every day including weekends.

Ms Hinchcliffe added: “The centre offers extended opportunities for our pupils.

“But it’s also a community resource centre and we have lots of community people using it.”
