Teenager killed in Sealand crash was a 'rising sports star'

crash scene

THE teenager killed in a car crash in Sealand last night (Monday) was a rising sport star from Connah's Quay.

Talented high jumper Daniel Thomas Evans, from Deeside Athletics Club, was pronounced dead at the scene after the black Renault Clio he was in overturned at around 9.20pm last night on the A548 Sealand Road.

Three other males were injured in the crash, one seriously. All three remain at the Countess of Chester Hospital.

Eighteen-year-old Daniel, a former Connah's Quay High School pupil, was a student at Deeside College.

Today (Tuesday), college principal David Jones said: "Everyone involved at Deeside College was devastated to hear about Danny.

"He was an outstanding athlete, and joined Deeside College as one of our elite sports scholarship students in 2007, following his remarkable achievements as a high jumper, starting at Connah's Quay High School and at a Welsh national level.

"He made good progress at Deeside College, and was due to complete his National Diploma in Sports Studies this year. He had a great life ahead of him, and this has tragically been taken away. Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this very difficult and sad time."
