A FORMER director of moneysupermarket.com drew inspiration from his entrepreneurial former boss by setting up a website himself.
Stuart Glendinning is following in the footsteps of the multi-millionaire founder of the price comparison site, Simon Nixon, by pursuing a business idea with passion and flair.
Stuart, 47, of Kelsall, set up Trusupporter.com as way for sporting fans’ memories and anecdotes to be recorded for posterity on a website.
Stuart, a Widnes rugby league fan, said: “For the last few years I have grown increasingly frustrated at how little attention is given to the supporter by the team they support.
“It is remarkable that fans support a team all their life – spend a fortune financially and emotionally – and get no recognition. The creation of Trusupporter.com will change this.”
Trusupporter is free to view but makes money by fans paying a £15 annual fee to post their profile online.
Alternatively, friends and relatives of fans may wish to buy a profile for their loved one as a present.
At launch, the site focuses on the supporters of Blackburn Rovers, Burnley and Preston North End.
But the intention is that it should grow to cover fans of other football teams and sports.
Almost 40 fans are already featured but Stuart hopes there will be hundreds of fans profiled by the end of 2010.
Stuart, married to Tracey with four children, had the business idea when his father, a Widnes rugby fan like himself, had a life-threatening heart attack causing him to wonder whether his dad’s loyal support would simply be forgotten with his passing – fortunately his loved one “pulled through”.
