VILLAGERS rose to the challenge and gave generously when The Rotary Club of Tarporley collected money to to buy and send more Shelterboxes to Haiti.
Nearly £600 was collected at their stall at the monthly Country Market, which, combined with money recently donated by children at Tarporley Primary School, means they have enough to send a further two boxes.
Boxes cost £490 each to pack and send.
Member David Carter said: “Shelterboxes contain a 10 person tent, plus enough items, utensils, blankets etc that a family of 10 who has lost everything, can have warmth and shelter for six months.
“There’s a small stove for cooking, and some basic tools such as an axe, hammer and screwdriver. The children aren’t forgotten – there are even pads and coloured pencils for them to amuse themselves with.”
Rotarian Tony Yeates took a box to Tarporley Primary School on where he was able to demonstrate just how much went into it.
The children there have already raised enough for one box and are well on their way with providing the money for another.
