BAGGING a record total is the aim for Runcorn2wembley this weekend, as the charity campaign once again steps into Royal territory.
The campaign for Cancer Research will be collecting from fans before Reading’s – the Royals – fifth round FA Cup game against West Bromwich Albion at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday.
Having raised more than £3,200 since starting in the very first round of the FA Cup (extra preliminary) at Runcorn Linnets in August, Runcorn2wembley is well on the way to the target total of £5,000 by the final at Wembley in May.Organised by brothers Richard and Robert Knowles, the campaign is run in memory of their father, who played for a number of famous non-league clubs, including Runcorn.
Richard, from Frodsham, said: “The support from fans and clubs we’ve met along the way has been fantastic; it’s hard to believe we’re nearing the end of the road to Wembley. Thanks to Reading well be able to collect around the ground before the game, hoping to beat the previous record pre-match total of £465.96.It’s been a tough campaign with some long trips, but I’m sure our dad will be proud of our achievements.”
