Chester’s Jigsaw Music Theatre present The Canterbury Tales

CHAUCER'S Canterbury Tales have found a most appropriate home in Chester.

Jigsaw Music Theatre company will present their own adaptation of the 14th century pilgrim stories at St Thomas of Canterbury Church on Cheyney Road.

Singing cockrels, dancing pigs and gallant knights will appear alongside drunken revellers, evil murderers and pious priests in the production by the company for children.

The youngsters will focus on three of Chaucer's stories: The Nun's Priest's Tale, the Pardoner's Tale and the Prioress's Tale.

Artistic director Matt Baker said: "As the pilgrims make their journey to Canterbury we thought it would be very fitting to transform the beautiful surroundings of St Thomas of Canterbury Church into a theatrical space."

Michael Beigel, a graduate of Cardiff University and a long time Jigsaw Music Theatre member, has joined the team as associate director. The former Kingsway High School pupil said: "It is a thrill to return. I used to love every minute of it when I was younger and it is great to see how that enthusiasm is still here amongst the members."

The Canterbury Tales is at St Thomas of Canterbury Church from February 23 to 25 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £6 (concessions £4) from Julie Elston on 07747110933.
