Chester man admits assault on wife

A HUSBAND received a two-year community order for an attack on his wife.

Mark Jones, 39, of Canberra Way, Chester, admitted the offence, last November in Elton.

Prosecuting at Chester Magistrates Court, Laurence Bestow said Jones made a statement which detailed the couple had been arguing and went to sleep in separate rooms. Mrs Jones could not sleep and woke Jones up in the middle of the night.

He went into the kitchen to make a cigarette, but they continued arguing and he pushed her away, with a single blow to the jaw, injuring her.

Jones added: “Although not intentional, the incident was reckless, and I apologise.”

Defending, Richard Simm said the couple were trying to rebuild their relationship, and Jones should be given credit for his guilty plea.

He added Jones had no previous convictions for violence, was working with Connexions and due to have a hip operation.

Magistrates handed Jones a two-year community order, to include a domestic violence programme.

They also ordered him to pay £100 court costs.
