WELSH Water is investing a further £350,000 in a scheme that will deliver environmental benefits to the River Dee and the surrounding area in Chester.
The utility company will begin work on the second phase of a scheme in The Groves area tomorrowŠ(Thursday, February 4). The work will involve the installation of new screening equipment and upgrading to part of the existing wastewater network in the area.
When completed, the scheme will improve the performance of the network during storm weather conditions by reducing the number of times unscreened storm water is released into the River Dee.Š This will deliver a boost to the environment by improving water quality in the river.
In order for the scheme to be carried out safely we have agreed with Cheshire West and Chester Council Area Highways Office that traffic lights will be in place on Dee Lane for approximately six weeks.
Work on this essential upgrade is expected to be completed by the middle of April.Š
Clara Hughes, Welsh Water’s communications representative said: “This essential scheme reflects Welsh Water’s commitment to invest in its wastewater network for the benefit of its customers and the local environment.Š We would like to thank local residents for bearing with us while this essential work is carried out.”
Welsh Water is investing heavily and working hard to ensure top quality services to all its communities in Wales. The company is investing £1.4 billion in its water and sewerage network between 2005 and 2010.
It is a not-for-profit company with the sole objective of providing top quality services for its customers. Welsh Water does not have shareholders, and any profits made are reinvested in the business for the benefit of customers, as well as for returning to customers as ‘dividends’. The customer dividend for 2009/10 is £22 for each customer receiving both water and wastewater services.
