TV’s Lucy Meacock to compere earthquake concert at Chester Cathedral
TV PRESENTER Lucy Meacock urges the public to support a fund-raising musical extravaganza this Sunday in aid of the earthquake-stricken people of Haiti.
Chester resident Lucy, who presents for Granada and ITN, will introduce six choirs and three bands at the cathedral in a concert from 7pm (doors open 6pm).
Entrance will be by a paper money donation on the door. All proceeds will go to the Disaster Emergency Committee Haiti Earthquake Appeal.
Presenter Lucy, who was only too happy to host the ‘Earthquake’ concert after being approached, said: “I didn’t have any hesitation at all after seeing the graphic pictures from Haiti. Even when you read the national and international news all the time, to see those harrowing pictures was so upsetting, those tiny hands reaching out for help and the orphans being carried into hospitals in America.
“Haiti has been absolutely devastated and there is a massive task of rebuilding so I felt it would be nice to help out.”
Performers include Chester Cathedral Choir and organ, a Handbag of Harmonies, Kelsborrow Choir, Chester Ladies’ Choir, The City of Chester Male Voice Choir, City of Chester Brass Band, Karamba Samba and Farndon and District Brass Band.
Lucy, a former Chronicle reporter, added: “I would urge anybody in Chester to think ‘what am I doing at 7pm on Sunday evening and is it more important than raising money for the people of Haiti?’ and I would doubt it.”
