Lord Mayor of Chester raises funds for Leukaemia and Lymphona Research
CHESTER’S Lord Mayor celebrated an ‘un-birthday’ to help a charity celebrate its real birthday.
Councillor John Ebo raised more than £200 for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research (formerly Leukaemia Research) by hosting an ‘Un-Birthday’ party at the Mansion House in Abbey Square to mark the blood cancer charity’s 50th anniversary.
Local businesses including Chatwin’s and Roberts bakeries donated food for the event.
Cllr Ebo also hosted an evening reception for councillors and community representatives.
The charity has changed its name to raise awareness of the its longstanding commitment to research into all the blood cancers, including lymphoma and myeloma.
Gillian said: “I’d like to thank the Lord Mayor for choosing us as his charity and allowing us to use his Mansion House for the day. The support and hard work of the charity’s Chester branch and local businesses was invaluable to ensuring the day went well.”
The un-birthday idea is from Lewis Carroll’s Alice through the Looking Glass, where Alice learns that birthdays come but once a year but un-birthdays can be celebrated on the other 364 days.
