A COUPLE toasted 50 years of marriage together with a celebratory meal on Saturday.
Bill and Enid Roberts, both 73, of Hawthorn Road, Christleton, marked the occasion with a family meal at the George and Dragon pub in Tarvin.
The day was a double celebration for Bill, as he also toasted his birthday.
The couple met at a dance in Quaintways in 1956. Enid was working as a bookbinder at Philipsons and Golders, Frodsham Street, while Bill was in the Army on a three-year national service duty tour.
Bill, born in Rhyl, and Enid, born in Hoole, tied the knot in All Saints Church, Hoole, in January 1960.
They have three sons, Steve, David and Mark, and one daughter, Karen O’Neill, as well as four grandsons and two granddaughters.
Bill later worked as a mechanic in his father’s Esso station business, based on the A41 in Hatton Heath, Tattenhall, before becoming a bus driver with Crosville in Chester. He worked for the bus company for 25 years until his retirement in 2002.
Cash donations were collected in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
