Tarporley refused a High Street chip shop

A PLANNING inspector has said no to the prospect of a chippie in Tarporley.

Mark Dakeyne said the fish and chip shop, proposed by David Thornhill in a shop at 109A High Street, would affect the quality of life of neighbours at 1A Coronation Terrace.

He said they would suffer significantly greater noise and disturbance from the comings and goings of customers, some cooking smells could waft towards the neighbours and rubbish could be thrown over their hedges.

The appeal arose after Mr Thornhill's application for the change of use of the premises was rejected by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

He appealed to Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government John Denham who appointed Mr Dakeyne to deal with the case.

The main issue according to the inspector, who visited Tarporley before reaching his decision, would be the effect on the living conditions of nearby residents.

Mr Dakeyne dismissed the appeal on the basis of the overriding harm to the occupiers of 1A Coronation Terrace.

In his decision the inspector argued the effects of takeaway food on child obesity were not a planning matter.
