New owners at historic Chester city centre newsagents

A NEWSAGENTS established in 1790 has entered the new year with a new owner.

Mountfords, situated on Northgate Street, Chester, had been in the Ryan family for more than 200 years.

Patrick Wright, 22, gained ownership of the store at the end of December and has major plans for it.

He said: “I want to renovate it, making it more modern. The stock line will be increased and, with my brilliant team behind me, I am definitely looking forward to it.”

Despite the weather last week being less than helpful to a new business, Patrick remains optimistic. He added: “We will sell a lot of tourist gifts in the summer.”
