Helsby homeowner calls for sledgers to clean up mess left at Frodsham Caves

A COMMUNITY- SPIRITED resident is calling for mess left in the aftermath of sledgers in a farmers field in Frodsham to be cleaned up.

Helsby homeowner Lance Yates was among hordes of people who descended on steep farm fields around Frodsham Caves in Manley Road, owned by obliging farmer Keith Sutton, to enjoy sledging on the snow-covered slopes last week.

Since then hills have been littered with a small mountain of rubbish, including smashed up sledges, old tyres, plastic bin lids, cases, bags and bottles.

“I don’t mind however many people sledging there so long as they take their rubbish away with them,” said Mr Sutton.

Mr Yates said: “I went up there on Monday and it’s horrendous, all this rubbish has just been left there.

“I just think people should be made aware of this.

“It’s been great for kids and families to go sledging, but I’m appealing for people who have had their fun to clear it up.”

He has already made a start and hopes residents will join him for a couple of hours from 10am on Saturday to finish the job.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has confirmed it will collect the gathered rubbish from the roadside.
