FIREFIGHTERS tackled a bedroom blaze at a house in Lache caused by an unattended candle.
Crews were called to Hazel Road at 1.09pm today (Monday, January 18).
The occupants, a mother and her young child, had safely evacuated the property.
Due to the damage caused to the upstairs area of the house, crews called the Red Cross for assistance in supporting the occupants.
Fortunately they have family and friends who live nearby.
Blue Watch firefighter Jim Payne said: “There is quite severe damage upstairs caused by the smoke and heat.”
The candles were being used due to a loss of electricity supply.
Firefighter Payne is warning residents to make sure they use them safely.
“All candles must be placed in a suitable holder”, he explained. ““Make sure they are out before leaving a room or retiring for the night.”
