Elderly man taken to hospital after flat fire

FIREFIGHTERS rescued a 78-year-old man from his flat after clothes drying next to an electric heater caught fire.

Crews were called to Richmond Court sheltered accommodation in Chester at 9.28pm last night (Saturday, January 16).

They gave the unconscious man oxygen before paramedics arrived and took him to the Countess of Chester Hospital.

The flat was left heavily damaged by the smoke and heat.
