Farndon lawnmower man creates makeshift snow plough to help neighbours

A BIG hearted resident made a makeshift snow plough to clear the path for elderly neighbours.

Using a lawnmower and a few pieces of wood, retired mechanical engineer Brian Hayward, 75, constructed the snow plough to clear the pavements near his home on Quarry Hill, Farndon.

As snow continued to fall, Brian returned to tread the streets for the good of the community.

Brian explained: “It's only a few pieces of wood but I've managed to clear the snow from the paths of all the neighbours houses and the old peoples bungalows.

“It's great if it helps other people."

“I did the old pensioners bungalows on Quarry Avenue.

“I ran round the pavements and up to everybody's doors.

“We've had a few phone calls thanking us very much.

“There's too many people saying I feel sorry for these people. A problem is no longer a problem once you realise it.

“All your efforts should be put into doing something about it.

“It works very well – better than I thought. It's just a thought I had while I was sitting down one day.”

He was even left praying for more snow to give himself the chance to put his invention to good use again.
