Chester Oxfam shop manager appeals for donations as stock levels plummet
THE city’s Oxfam shop has seen a dramatic drop in donations and the manager is calling on people to give generously.
The shop on Frodsham Street has seen a 15% fall in donations over the last 12 months and the recent bad weather has seen their stock fall dramatically. The snow, which comes at a critical period for donations just after the Christmas period, has hit the shop hard.
Manager of the Chester Oxfam shop, Katherine Burgess, said: “This is a crucial moment for us.
“Over the last 18 months, people have been buying less, replacing less and therefore donating less to Oxfam. Usually after Christmas people would take a lot of unwanted presents to our shop- but this year it doesn’t seem to be the case. We are struggling with ladies’ clothing, DVDs and music. It is difficult to replace stock on shelves. And last week’s snow didn’t help.”
Katherine added: “We are particularly after warm clothes and blankets – things people are using to keep themselves warm. We ask everybody to look through their homes for items.”
