Wynnstay Hunt has to call off Boxing Day drag race due to frozen ground

ICY weather halted the hunt but failed to spoil the fun in Malpas on Boxing Day.

The Wynnstay Hunt drag race was cancelled due to the frozen ground but the huntsmen still paraded their horses and hounds.

Wynnstay Hunt secretary Sally Anson said: “Many people like us were unable to get their horses out so had to go on foot. But those who could paraded the horses on the High Street and went for a ride along local roads.

“It was a shame we couldn’t do the drag race but it didn’t spoil too much of the fun.

“It was in fact a brilliant turnout, one of our better years.”

About 1,000 people gathered outside The Swan Hotel in Tarporley to watch the Cheshire Hunt’s Boxing Day meeting.

Again, frozen ground prevented a drag being laid and many found they could not get their horses out.

The horses and hounds paraded the High Street before turning home.
