Fire crews rescued a boy who had become locked in a room in his home.

A MUM had to call the fire brigade after a six-year-old became trapped in a room in her Chester home.

Chester fire crews were called to Woodlands Road at 10.45am after reports of a child stuck in a room in the home on Tuesday.

Fire crews managed release the boy quickly and reunited him with his mother.

Village proposals

PLANNING applications relating to Tarporley will be available for the public to view in the village library in the new year.

Applications that are put forward for consultation will now be available for the public to view in full at the library based at the high school on Eaton Road.

The library is open to the public on Monday 2pm to 7pm, Wednesday 2pm to 5pm and Friday 9.30am to 12.30pm

Apprentice levels

A RECORD 143,400 people, including 22,800 in the North West, completed an apprenticeship in the 2008/09 academic year.

Data released by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills show there’s been an increase of 20% – nearly 4,000 extra NW apprentices – in the last 12 months.

There were 1,900 completions in Cheshire – up 12% from 1,700.

Apprenticeships Minister Kevin Brennan said: “It’s great news that we’re seeing the highest number of people completing an apprenticeship and that the success rates have jumped to over 70%.”

Society meeting

Chester’s Macular Disease Society is meeting on January 12 at 2pm at Quaker Meeting House, Frodsham Street, Chester, and will welcome John Stark, editor of the Chester Talking Newspaper, as their guest speaker.
